Medical Device Overview

Depending on your condition and care plan, MayaMD may provide a connected medical device such as a blood pressure monitor, weight scale, pulse oximeter, or glucometer. These devices automatically and securely share your readings with your care team, helping them better understand your health and monitor your progress between visits. If you receive a monitoring device, we encourage you to take readings regularly as directed by your provider & your MayaMD medical assitant. The more information your care team has, the better we can identify trends and support your health.

Some patients may not require a monitoring device and may instead benefit from our Chronic Care Management services, which provide personalized support for their specific condition. Whether you participate in Remote Monitoring or Chronic Care Management, you will have a dedicated MayaMD medical assistant who provides monthly check-ins, tracks your progress, shares updates with your provider's office, and helps you stay informed and engaged in your care. Below are helpful videos to guide you through setting up and using your device, if one has been provided to you.

What RPM and PCM services are covered by my insurance?
Coverage depends on your plan. Many insurance plans cover Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) and Principal Care Management (PCM) for eligible conditions. Copays or deductibles may apply. For an example, Medicare and many private insurers provide coverage for remote care services since these are CMS programs - Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, but the coverage is dependent on your specific plan, region or state. Medicare covers RPM & PCM services for acute and/or chronic conditions, but patients may be responsible for a 20% co-payment under Medicare Part B. This copay may be lower though if you have a secondary insurance plan too. So as you can see, it all depends on what your specific coverage is and it’s always best to either call your doctor’s billing office or your insurance provider directly. Please also note that some insurances require prior authorization which may cause a slight delay in our service to you.
How are RPM and PCM services billed to my insurance?
We work directly with your provider’s office and only invoice for the services we provide on a monthly basis. Hence, if you do have a copay, they may vary depending on which service you have and what is provided. Check with your provider's billing department, insurer or one of our enrollment specialists.
Who is eligible for RPM and PCM care services?
Patients eligible for RPM must have at least one acute condition that warrants the service (e.g. hypertension, chronic kidney disease, diabetes, COPD, CHF). Additionally, only established patients who have been evaluated and met with their provider or specialist in the past 12 months can participate. Eligible patients for PCM must have one chronic condition expected to last at least 3 months. PCM can only be used to target this single illness. It must pose a significant risk of death, acute decompensation, or functional decline.
Who should I contact if I still have insurance questions?
It’s always best to call your provider’s billing office to ask any questions that you might have and of course your insurer.
