MayaMD Announces COVID Vaccine Tool to Educate Patients and Facilitate Vaccination Process

New COVID-19 vaccine tool, driven by MayaMD’s next-generation AI engine, helps patients schedule vaccine appointments and answer critical questions

Boston, MA (February 4, 2021) – MayaMD, one of the world’s leading and most accurate health diagnostic tools, has created a new web-based COVID-19 vaccine tool that gives patients, providers, and local health officials a better way to understand and efficiently navigate the vaccination process – including the timely scheduling of vaccination appointments.

The COVID-19 vaccine tool prototype is now available to any health system or government entity coordinating vaccine deployment — an important mechanism to speed up the process of vaccinating all Americans against the deadly COVID-19 virus.

According to Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and President Biden’s chief medical advisor on COVID-19, around 75-80% of the U.S. population needs to get vaccinated by September to achieve herd immunity by the end of 2021. Reaching this important milestone depends on patient education and increasing the willingness of Americans to get vaccinated.

“Educating patients with scientific facts, and making the vaccination process as simple as possible, is the best way to encourage patients to do their part – and to combat mistrust and misinformation surrounding COVID-19 vaccines,” said Dr. Vipindas Chengat, founder of MayaMD. “With MayaMD, patients are empowered to manage the vaccination process on their own terms,” he said.

To date, only six percent of the adult population has received a COVID-19 vaccine. A recent poll by the Kaiser Family Foundation reports that more than 60 percent of unvaccinated adults said they didn’t have enough information about when they would be eligible to receive the vaccine, and a majority said they would not know where to get vaccinated.
When patients access MayaMD’s AI online vaccine tool, Maya provides medical insights, analyzes any existing symptoms, and responds to common questions about vaccine safety, mRNA, and the Pfizer and Moderna clinical trials. Maya also connects patients with a scheduler when vaccine doses are available in their area.

“Our goal is to provide patients with a friction-free experience to schedule and receive their vaccinations with confidence. We believe this will help encourage other friends and family members to also get the vaccine,” said Dr. Chengat. “We’re all in this together, and to beat this pandemic requires the participation of every individual,” he said.

MayaMD’s new COVID-19 tool follows the recent launch of the company’s AI-powered personal health assistant engine, called Maya, which already has 100,000 app downloads. It can process quadrillion combinations of any symptoms, physical signs, and labs in 0.3 seconds. Maya then provides patients with the most advanced triage and care coordination information available, including directions to the nearest specialists and treatment facilities. The technology also generates a secure digital note with this data that patients can share with their medical provider – a clinical starting point for doctors to determine next steps in treating the patient, such as a list of conditions sorted by probability and appropriate diagnostic exams to consider. This note can also be integrated into EHRs so care teams have patients’ most up-to-date healthcare information.

Unlike run-of-the-mill “symptom checkers,” MayaMD provides a holistic clinical decision support system for patients and doctors, with results that are faster, actionable, and accurate. Maya’s symptom checking ability has an accuracy rate of 94 percent according to researchers at UCLA, The University of Michigan, and the University of Utah. Within 90 seconds, MayaMD captures 25 decision points, far more than any other symptom checker, and demonstrates the effectiveness and promise of AI in the delivery of quality health care for patients. MayaMD’s predictive abilities allow Emergency Departments and hospitals to properly plan for the acuity levels of incoming patients before they arrive, which helps to save time and deploy (or conserve) necessary resources, including medical staff, specialists, equipment, and medications.

“We created MayaMD to help patients navigate the health care system with ease, to keep them well, and to provide the best chance to live healthy lives,” said Dr. Chengat. “With the COVID-19 pandemic, our mission is more critical than ever – which is why our new AI tool to educate patients and help get them vaccinated is necessary to end the crisis.”

“We hope we have entered the final phase of the pandemic, and it is critical that we all do our part in the days ahead,” Dr. Chengat continued. “MayaMD makes participating in this process easier for counties, cities and hospitals, so that we can inoculate patients quickly to move on from this pandemic and return to living our lives.”
